Pelicans Fall To The Spurs 112-97

Pelicans went into the 4th quarter trailing by 1. I had a tweet stating that the next 3-5 minutes would be huge with Brandon Ingram out. Who was going to step up?

Answer: Nobody

The Pelicans in the first 2 minutes of the 4th got outscored 7-0. By the time Brandon Ingram checked back in the game, the Pelicans were down 10. It has been the same story with this team all year. They battle their ass off, they want to win, but eventually… they run out of talent.

The Pelicans are closing games out with Tomas Satoransky and Garrett Temple. These guys are barely NBA players yet alone closers. They are playing crunch time minutes, they wouldn’t be in the rotation for 80% of teams in the NBA. Everyone wants to point at Brandon Ingram and his “crunch time” stats. When you are rolling out players like Sato and Temple to close out games… More times than not, you will fail.

Which leads to my next point. Why is Trey Murphy not getting any run? Seriously, there are no more excuses for this. Zion is most likely out for the year, Sato/Temple are unplayable and we are 8-21 . How is your 17th overall pick from this year not getting at least 15 minutes a night on a last place team?

Is he too soft? Is he missing defensive assignments? Probably, but you only learn by actually playing.

Last point, Willie Green needs to get T’d up. The way BI and JV are getting assaulted on a nightly basis and not getting a whistle is unacceptable. I know Willie likes to stay calm, but at some point you need to stand up for your All-Stars.
