Logan’s 2021 Saints Mock Draft

The draft is four or so weeks away and of course everyone has their mock drafts. Now I am about to give y’all mine. Here is who I think the Saints will take in the 2021 NFL Draft. Noted, trades will be included also! Here we go:

Round 1 (TRADE!) Pick 14: Jaycee Horn, CB, S. Carolina

Saints trade in front of the Arizona Cardinals to snatch up Jaycee Horn. Saints traded their ‘21 1st, ‘21 3rd pick 98, ‘and 21 7th pick 229 to Vikings for pick 14 and ‘22 6th round pick. Saints now will have a young solid CB2 next to Lattimore and the secondary should be as lock up as Angola prison. Fun fact if you did not know, Jaycee Horn is the son of Saints legend Joe Horn. I am sure Jaycee would not mind making a return to New Orleans to wear the same colors his father once wore.

Round 2 Pick 60: Jabril Cox, LB, LSU

Saints get much needed help at LB with Cox especially with his coverage ability. He fits perfectly in Dennis Allen’s 4-3 Cover 3 scheme. Jabril’s best highlights comes from him dropping back in coverage. Saints will love Jabril Cox with this pick.

Round 3 Pick 98: Traded for Jaycee Horn

Round 3 Pick 105: Kyle Trask, QB, Florida

Even though the Saints just signed Jameis Winston and Taysom Hill to deals, something tells me that the Saints aren’t done at QB. Jameis is only on a 1 year and Taysom on a voidable contract. Kyle Trask would be an absolute steal in round 3. His style of play would fit perfectly in Coach Payton’s scheme. In terms of depth at QB Saints only have Jameis Winston as QB1 and Taysom as Gadget. They need a solid QB2 for this season and possible QB1 for the future. Saints get a good one in Kyle Trask.

Round 4 Pick 133: Amari Rodgers, WR, Clemson

Amari Rodgers turned heads at the senior bowl with his impressive practices and stat line. Rodgers can be a great WR2 option or even a great slot guy. Either way the Saints get another steal late in the draft. Rodgers will fit perfectly next to Michael Thomas.

Round 6 Pick 218: Trae Barry, TE, Jacksonville St.

JSU Atletics

Saints moved on from Jared Cook and Josh Hill this offseason which means Adam Trautman will be TE1 for the team. But behind him is now just recently signed FA TE Nick Vannett who is better at blocking than catching. Saints could use another pass catching threat at TE to go along with Trautman and why not go for another small school guy in Trae Barry. Barry needs to improve on his blocking skills but he is a stud at catching the ball. Two TE sets with Barry and Trautman would be something to watch.

Round 7 Pick 229 (From Jaguars) Traded to Minnesota in Jaycee Horn Trade

Round 7 Pick 242: Josh Johnson, RB, UL Monroe

Warhawk Athletics

With their final selection in the NFL draft, the Saints, go with a RB. People may ask why with Kamara, Murray, Montgomery, and Washington on the roster. Simply put, Montgomery and Washington are primarily ST players. Josh Johnson could serve as that RB3 we have been searching for since traded Darren Sproles away many years ago. Saints were at their best when they ran the ball with the Ingram Kamara duo a few years ago and even the 09 season with Bush, Thomas, and Bell in the backfield. I could see the trio of Kamara, Murray, and Johnson being the top backfield in the league.

Here’s a mock without trades:

Round 1 pick 28: Greg Newsome II, CB, NW

Round 2 Pick 60: Terrace Marshall, WR, LSU

Round 3 Pick 98: Kyle Trask, QB, Florida

Round 3 Pick 105: Brevin Jordan, TE, Miami

Round 4 Pick 133: Milton Williams, DT, LA Tech

Round 6 Pick 218: Spencer Brown, OT, Northern Iowa

Round 7 Pick 229: Tony Fields II, LB, West Virginia

Round 7 Pick 242: Josh Johnson, RB, UL Monroe
