NASCAR’s biggest and most popular race, The Daytona 500, is slated to start this Sunday! Chase Elliot is looking to defend his NASCAR championship from last season and of course he’ll have stiff competition with a couple of vets behind him like Denny Hamlin and Kevin Harvick.

With the 2021 ready to kickoff there’s plenty of drivers in different places. One driver with some big shoes to fill is Alex Bowman who is now driving the legendary 48 car that Jimmie Johnson drove for so many years, and a new team that stands out above the rest is the new 23XI Racing team that is owned by Denny Hamlin and also NBA legend Michael Jordan. Bubba Wallace will be the driver of the new number 23 Toyota car for 23XI Racing.

This season is already different than the previous because first off you can actually practice and second off you can actually qualify for the race. During the 2020 NASCAR season qualifying and practice were canceled because of covid concerns. Cup practice is gonna be happening throughout the afternoon and tonight Cup qualifying begins with at least 36 cars are a lock already out of 44 with only 40 total spots so the last 4 spots will be a battle.

Daytona is set to kickoff Sunday at 1:30 PM standard time and according to NBC Sports the forecast for the big race is said to be a high of 72 degrees and 51% chance of showers. We are just days away from hearing the most famous words in NASCAR “DRIVERS START YOUR ENGINES”!
