LSU Finally Hires Their Guy For DC
After multiple weeks of LSU trying to get someone for their vacant defensive coordinator position it looks like they finally have their guy. First reported by Jane Slater of NFL Network, it looks like the Saints-LSU pipeline will continue with LSU hiring Saints DL coach Ryan Nielsen. Before his time with the Saints, Nielsen coached DL in college most notably with NC State where he got the whole DL group drafted. This makes sense because Nielsen once played for Coach Orgeron at USC and also coached under Orgeron while at Ole Miss. Look for the defense to play with some attitude in the 2021 season. Sources also have said look out for Rams LBs Coach, Joe Barry, to be poached to be LSU’s LBs coach too.
A LA Tech DL I had spoken with before said he had met Nielsen on two separate occasions and described Nielsen as “no nonsense kind of guy and always strictly business” he continued “ I attended a camp where he was at and he actually helped improve my game in a matter of hours, he’s a great coach”. So it seems to mean that LSU might have found the right guy all along and just had to be patient. I also think that maybe the LSU-Saints pipeline may continue especially if successful as it was in 2019. In my opinion this is a terrific hire for LSU.
